As we're introduced to the Crawley family and the servants that cater to them, we learn that the heir to Lord Grantham, James Crawley, and his son Patrick were among the missing. The future of the Downton estate and the fortune that comes with it are in question. Who is the next heir in line? What does this mean for Mary, Grantham's eldest daughter, who was to marry Patrick? Mary seems determined to find a replacement suitor, entertaining multiple prospects.
Downtstairs in the servants quarters, news of the Titanic and the affect this has on the Crawely family spreads fast. A new valet for Lord Grantham, John Bates, is about to start work. Bates arrives to Downton and this begins a chain of changes and drama that creates a story line all it's own. Some sneaky wars and some not-so-sneaky tricks keep you wondering what will happen next.
This is one of my favorite series on Television right now, and possibly one of the best period. Winning several awards and nominations, fans on both sides of the pond are waiting every week to see what will happen to the Crawely family and those affected by their fate and decisions.
