Harry Potter Pushed Back

If you were looking forward to seeing the new Harry Potter flick, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, it may surprise you to learn that Warner Brothers has decided to push the movie’s release date back to July of 2009!

According to a press release issued by Warner Brothers on August 14, the decision to push the movie back to Summer 2009 is two-fold. Warner Bros. sites the recent writer’s strike as being a key factor in their decision as well as the success of their last movie, which also debuted during the summer months.

According to WB, the latest Harry Potter film was the second highest grossing film of the Harry Potter franchise (second only to the first Potter film). And this makes good sense when one looks at it from a marketing perspective. Children are out of school and parents are looking for a way to beat the heat so a trip to the movies is a logical choice during the summer months.

The president of Warner Brothers Motion Picture Group, Jeff Robinov stated in the press release that while the release of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince would be delayed, it would not affect the release dates of other Potter films.

So while you won’t have the new Harry Potter film to discuss over Thanksgiving dinner, you will have a killer movie to discuss while you’re lounging around the pool next summer!
